The reason I'm giving an inside look into my world is because it may help others see some new ideas
on accessability.  Kelly & I planned this house in 1992 & moved in June of 1994.  Because I am in
an electric wheelchair and indoors all winter practically, we decided to build a house with an open
concept, wide doors & a few remote control devices I use. We are really fortunate to have such a
nice house.  If you are planning to build a house or remodel, please build it accessable.  This is not
just a good idea for wheelchair users but also can come in handy when an old relative wants to stop
by.  No steps, no problem!

This is our living room which you would see first as you walked in the front door.  5 foot arch opening with a tin ceiling to stare at when I stretch out in the chair.  This room is in the center of our house.  A quite room to read or chat in.

Here is looking back at our front door.  In the middle is our dining room, which looks out the front or North.  Wood oak floor with a stain glass shade made by our neighbor.  The whole house has Anderson windows, positioned low enough for small children & myself to see out.  The right side picture leads into our family room. Behind the stained door is our furnace room.  Through the archway & left out of site is another door which goes into our garage.
The 3 pictures combined is like a panoramic veiw.

Our family room has a nice gas fireplace which I can turn on by hitting a rocker switch.  In the dead of the ice cold winter this place is a haven! I'm sitting in an Invacare Arrow-Storm Series chair with a Tharsus tilt & recline system. First chair I've had in which someone was actually thinking when they designed it. Shocks, quite motors, tilt...

The hall  leads to the kids side of the house & the laundry room.  On the wall hang maps of the world.  A nice little closet sits on the left side, very convenient.  The hallway is 4 feet wide, should have made it 5 feet.  All the doorways are 3 feet wide with special hinges I'll show you later.
